Feminine and Masculine bathrooms

The design of your new shared house, its colour scheme and vibe, is one of the many not so minor arguments newly weds may face. Arguments about the most personal of your spaces, such as your bathroom or master bedroom are particularly fierce. Part of this is down to the his and hers aspect or should I say his or hers. Should you opt for a more masculine bathroom defined by its rich hues and the abundance of earth tones meeting their rustic counterparts allowing for a rugged look which is hard not to love, or take a more feminine route in the design of your bathroom. Feminine bathrooms are often centralised around a rosy or pastel tone with less geometric shapes and instead falling in favour of mirrors characterised by ovals. On balance, a combination of the two is surely the safest option.

Masculine bathrooms are often sleek with dark blues and sharp edges, however recent man cave bathrooms have featured art and marble and statement pieces such as vintage and worn wooden draws and exquisite pieces of art. geometric mirrors can be framed by gold, matte black or brown to continue the masculine theme. Nautical bathrooms with features such as maps and ships with tones of lighter blues and greens can provide a softer version of the classic masculine bathroom. Maps can evoke the nature of travel and can be used to layer up a space. Layering of spaces can also achieved by the boasting of shiny tiles, dark wooden trim and a charming light feature. This can create an electric look- after all who said masculine had to be sparse?
On the contrary, feminine bathrooms are often less noisy and provide a calm environment with a relaxing vibe. Pops of colour are also often used to add sense of decadence, which is only furthered by thoughtful touches such as an embellished oval mirror and plush seating. Moreover, the elegance of feminine bathrooms is unmatched. Bathrooms created with the lighter touch of femineity are often inspired by pre-revolutionary France, this is shown through the use of baby blues and pinks with the added style of cream light features and gold accents- in terms of mini statues and vases. A key role is also flower, whether included in the design of the room on walls or if live for a pop of colour, as long as matching the overall tone of your room they bring a profound sense of soft femininity.

To combine the two, you can use a neutral colour pallet with soft greys and blues as well as including earthy tones. Add subtle floral accents and pair them with matte black or brushed gold for balance and style. The equilibrium is key in creating a stylish space in which everyone can enjoy a luxury shower.
